Prolessa Duo Review
Prolessa Duo is part of a range of health and wellness products marketed by Herbalife International of America, Inc.
As with most of the company’s other products, customers are strongly encouraged to use Prolessa Duo alongside additional Herbalife products.
However, Prolessa Duo is an expensive product that costs around double the price of many top-rated diet pills. It is less than ideal that such a costly supplement does not appear to be strong enough to go it alone.
Prolessa Duo Benefits
Prolessa Duo is marketed as a dual-action hunger control and fat reduction powder that provides the following:
- Conjugated linoleic acid to help decrease body fat
- A unique emulsion of palm and oat oils to fill the stomach and help reduce calorie intake
Manufacturer Credibility
Herbalife International of America, Inc. is based in Los Angeles, California, and has been trading under its present name since 1996.
The original company was founded in 1980 by Mark R. Hughes, who originally sold his products from the back of his car. Although the company grew rapidly and presently operates in more than 90 countries, it has a somewhat checkered past.
In 1982, the FDA took issue with some of the claims the company was making for certain ingredients, forcing Herbalife to reformulate some products and modify its claims.
Two years later, the Department of Justice of Canada filed criminal charges against Herbalife for misleading medical claims in advertisements.
The business model has also caused controversy.
Herbalife is a multi-level marketing company (MLM) that sells its products via independent, self-employed distributors. Due to the way distributors can increase their incomes by recruiting teams of “downline” distributors, people often compare MLM to pyramid schemes.
Although the comparison is generally unjust, it’s true to say, most people who get involved in MLM ventures don’t make much money while a few luckier individuals become extremely rich.
However, in 2012, hedge fund manager Bill Ackman and several other investors accused Herbalife of operating a sophisticated pyramid scheme.
Four years later, Herbalife paid a $200 million fine as part of a settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission and agreed to “fundamentally restructure” its business, in the USA but not worldwide.
In September 2019, following government action by The Security and Exchange Commission, Herbalife agreed to pay $20 million to settle charges for misleading investors. (https://www.sec.gov/news/press-release/2019-195)
Then, in August of the following year, Herbalife agreed to pay more than $67 million to settle charges that it violated books and records relating to its internal accounts.
How Does Prolessa Duo Work?
The Herbalife website doesn’t provide any information to support the claims it makes for this product. It does not reference studies or provide any links.
However, the formulation is primarily designed to suppress appetite. If it can do this, it will help people to lose weight by allowing them to eat less without feeling hungry.
What’s the Best Way to Use Prolessa Duo?
Prolessa Duo is designed to be used alongside the Herbalife Formula 1 shake. You make the shake in the normal way and add one scoop of Prolessa Duo to the mixture.
The Formula 1 shake provides protein, vitamins, and minerals. Adding Prolessa Duo to it allegedly reduces hunger.
If you make contact with a Herbalife distributor, don’t be surprised if they try to encourage you to buy even more additional products.
Herbalife recommends using the Formula 1 shake alongside its Formula 2 Multivitamin Complex and the Formula 3 Cell Activator.
Prolessa Duo Ingredients
The Prolessa Duo information page on the Herbalife website fails to provide a list of ingredients.
The page only states the product provides conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) to help decrease body fat. This is apparently combined with a “unique emulsion of palm and oat oils” that help you to reduce your calorie intake by making your stomach feel full.
It’s truly disgraceful to see such an expensive product for sale with so little information. Presumably, your friendly Herbal Life distributor will be able to provide a full ingredient list but it’s always nice to be able to examine the supplement facts before being in the presence of someone who is moving in for the hard sell.
Some Amazon listings provide a snapshot of the label, often written in Spanish, that suggests there are several more ingredients. However, many customer reviews state the products on Amazon are fake and suggest only purchasing via authorized distributors.
All we can be sure of is the powder contains an undisclosed amount of CLA and an emulsion made from palm and oat oils.
CLA
CLA is a fatty acid. Dietary sources include dairy products and grass-fed beef. The CLA in supplements usually comes from safflower oil.
Although research suggests CLA may provide significant weight loss in animals, its value as weight loss aid for humans is modest. That’s if it works at all. Scientific opinion differs. (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/324858#possible-benefits)
It seems likely CLA may offer a little weight-loss support to some people. It may also have the ability to help prevent loss of muscle mass due to dieting.
However, as a fat-loss provider, CLA’s credentials do not compare well to those of several other natural ingredients including cayenne pepper, a-Laceys Reset, and green tea. A good inclusion in the Prolessa Duo formula
Palm + Oat Oil Emulsion
This is an unusual combination so it would be great if Herbalife were to provide details of what this oil mixture can do.
Although palm oil is not normally associated with weight loss, it’s a healthy oil that may help keep cholesterol levels within acceptable limits.
Oats are high in fiber so they are good for making the stomach feel full. Oat oil does not have any fiber so it’s highly unlikely that it will present the same stomach-filling effect.
This type of oil is often an inclusion in topical beauty treatments you rub into the skin. In addition to moisturizing the skin, oat oil is also good for soothing the symptoms of dermatitis and fungal infections that cause itchy skin.
Is this mixture of plant oils likely to suppress appetite? There’s no proof that it won’t but nor is there any evidence that it will.
Prolessa Duo Customer Reviews
It’s not possible to locate any reliable customer reviews. At first blush, Amazon appears to be the best option for feedback but there’s strong evidence, the Herbalife products available via Amazon’s websites may not be genuine.
Known Side Effects
There is no way to predict if side effects are likely because Herbalife makes it so difficult to find accurate ingredient information.
One Amazon However, as a fat-loss provider, CLA’s credentials do not compare well to those of several other natural ingredients including cayenne pepper, a-Laceys Reset, and green tea. A good inclusion in the Prolessa Duo review mentions hair loss. Others mention skin irritation and rashes. There are also reports of stomach upsets and migraines.
However, as some reviewers point out, Herbalife does not permit its distributors to sell via Amazon. That means it would be unfair to attribute these side effects to the genuine product.
Although we have no way to be certain what ingredients the true product contains, we do know it has some CLA.
Although most people tolerate CLA well, some people using it may experience nausea, stomach upsets, or diarrhea. There’s also a possibility of fatigue.
CLA supplements may impair insulin resistance and/or sugar absorption in people who are diabetic or suffering from metabolic syndrome. They are also unsuitable for women who are pregnant or nursing a child. (https://www.webmd.com/vitamins-and-supplements/conjugated-linoleic-acid-cla)
Prolessa Duo Purchasing Options and Considerations
Unless you know a Herbalife distributor, you may find it difficult to buy any of the company’s products. It’s not possible to buy them from the Herbalife website. All the site provides is brief product descriptions along with information about the price.
The standard-size pot provides a 30-day supplement program. There’s also a smaller pot that provides enough powder to last for a week. Presumably, this is for people who don’t want to invest in a 30-day supply before they know what the powder can do.
Prolessa Duo Cost Price
Caution is understandable when buying this product because it’s extremely expensive. The 30-day program costs a staggering $115.90. The smaller pot costs $30.95.
If you use Prolessa Duo alongside the Herbalife Formula 1 shake, as the company suggests, it will entail even greater expense. The shake costs nearly $50 per pot.
Many Herbalife products, including Prolessa Duo, appear to be available via Amazon and eBay, but there is no way to be sure they are genuine.
Although it’s possible some distributors may be buying products to re-sell online, it’s equally likely some or all of the products may be fake.
Many customer reviews say the product on Amazon does not taste and/or look like the Prolessa Duo they’d previously had from Herbalife distributors.
There are also many complaints about fake labels or labels that have information removed or deleted with a marker pen.
Bearing these things in mind, if you cannot make contact with an official distributor, it’s probably best not to buy any Herbalife products at all.
Guarantee
Prolessa Duo does not have a money-back guarantee.
Prolessa Duo Review Conclusion
Prolessa Duo is an expensive product that’s unlikely to be capable of fulfilling its primary role by reducing hunger.
The CLA the powder provides may help some people to see slight improvements in the results they are getting via diet and exercise. In theory anyway. Let’s not forget there is no way to know if Prolessa Duo provides a credible dose.
This particular ingredient combination appears to be a very poor match for the supplement’s aims. If Herbalife wanted to make a shake that reduces hunger, it would have made more sense to choose a high-fiber ingredient like glucomannan or psyllium husk instead. That’s what most other manufacturers do.
Although the prospect of side effects is probably low, Prolessa Duo appears to be an overpriced product that’s sure to underperform. Our advice is to give Prolessa Duo a miss and choose a cheaper, more credible weight loss product instead.
