What is Orlistol
Orlistol is a diet pill (and sublingual drops) that’s primarily distributed via Amazon. Before going any further with this review, I want to point out the name of the product is very similar to a product that is called Orlistat.
Orlistat is a doctor prescribed weight loss pill whereas Orlistol is available to buy direct or over the counter.
Orlistol is a fat blocking supplement. It’s powered by natural ingredients.
Orlistat is a fat blocking pill. It inhibits the digestive enzymes the body uses for digesting dietary fats.
If you use the pill alongside a diet that’s sufficiently low in calories it can help you to lose more weight than you would by diet and exercise alone.
The Orlistol supplement contains an ingredient that blocks fat, but it contains an ingredient that blocks carbohydrate absorption too.
In short, it’s supposed to do a few things that Orlistat cannot do.
According to the Orlistol marketing material, the product can help you to lose one pound extra for every pound you lose via diet and exercise.
That’s interesting because Alli is sold with the same promise of a 50% improvement.
Is Orlistol being deliberately marketed in a way that makes it easy to confuse it with Orlistat? I’ll let you make your own decision about that.
Who Makes Orlistol?
Orlistol is manufactured by Nutratech. According to the Better Business Bureau (BBB), the company also trades under the name Atrafen.
Nutratech is not BBB accredited and, at the time of this review, the BBB website had a “Mail Returned” alert because the company’s business address was not known to the US Postal Service.
Regardless of the fact that the company might be trading from a bogus address, Nutratech is pretty active on Amazon.
Orlistol is just one of many other Nutratech health and wellness supplements including a multivitamin and mineral and a male testosterone booster.
Orlistol: The Promised Benefits
- The only product that inhibits carb and fat absorption
- Acts as a powerful appetite suppressant
- Helps you burn 1 pound extra for every 2 pounds you lose through dieting
- Excellent for getting you back into keto after a cheat meal
- High-quality product made in FDA mandated GMP facilities in the USA
- All Ingredients sourced from FDA-approved suppliers
What Is Orlistol and How Does It Work?
For starters, Nutratech is not the only product that inhibits carb and fat absorption. Many other products do this too – XLS Medical Max Strength is one of them
However, if Orlistol can block carbs and fat it will help create/add to the calorie shortage the body has to experience to force it to begin burning its stores of fat.
If Orlistol can help suppress appetite in the promised way, it will also make life easier for people who are trying to eat less and lose weight.
Nobody likes to feel hungry. That’s one of the things that makes losing weight so hard. A good appetite suppressing diet pill can be worth its weight in gold.
Orlistol List of Ingredients
Orlistol contains unspecified amounts of the following seven ingredients:
- Phaseolus Vulgaris (White Kidney Bean Extract)
- Garcinia Cambogia Extract
- Apple Cider Vinegar
- Aloe Vera
- California Buckthorn
- Gymnema Sylvestre
Orlistol Ingredient Potential
Chitosan is a popular fat blocker. There are two different types of chitosan used in diet pills. One kind comes from a species of fungus.
The other is obtained from the shells of crabs, shrimps, and other sea-living crustaceans. That’s the type most supplement manufacturers use. Nutratech fails to identify the type of chitosan it’s using.
Phaseolus Vulgaris (White Kidney Bean Extract)
White kidney bean is a carb blocker. In fact, it probably has dibs at being the most popular natural carb blocking ingredient in the world.
Several studies appear to support the use of white kidney bean for carb blocking. However, the dose needs to be pretty high. The participants in one clinical trial were taking 445 mg of white kidney bean extract per day.
Unfortunately, there is no way to know how much white kidney bean extract, Orlistol provides. That means there is also no way to know what kind of carb blocking potential the product may have.
Garcinia Cambogia Extract
Garcinia cambogia is a species of tropical fruit. The ingredient used in diet pills comes from its rind.
Garcinia cambogia rinds provide hydroxycitric acid (HCA) and quality can vary a lot. Some extracts are only 20% HCA. Others can provide three times this amount.
According to expert opinion, garcinia cambogia extracts that are 50-60% HCA are most likely to offer good results.
The ingredient has been subjected to a good deal of study. Although some clinical trials don’t support its use as a weight loss aid, the majority of them do.
The HCA in garcinia cambogia appears to reduce appetite. Additionally, it may inhibit fat storage. Don’t expect miracles though. The average weight loss is likely to only be around two pounds in 2-12 weeks.
Apple Cider Vinegar
Apple cider vinegar is said to support good health in many ways but credible research is lacking.
Although apple cider vinegar may have many virtues, it’s best to consider it a promising ingredient worthy of further research.
Aloe vera has a long history of use as a medicinal plant. Depending on the condition it’s treating, it can be consumed or applied topically to the skin.
Extracts from the plant are sometimes used for improving digestive health. Some research shows it may also have value for treating IBS.
However, aloe vera is probably best known for its laxative effect. Using a laxative like aloe vera in a diet pill can cause confusion. If you spend more time pooping you will get lighter. This is because you will be carrying less feces inside you. It’s very easy to mistake this kind of temporary weight loss for fat loss.
Also known as coffeeberry, California buckthorn is a North American plant. It’s mostly used as a laxative.
Gymnema sylvestre is a climbing shrub. Its leaves have been used for healing in India for thousands of years. Sometimes Indian healers even use it as a remedy for snake bites.
The ingredient is probably included here because it may reduce sugar cravings and blood sugar levels
Does Orlistol Work?
Some of the ingredients in Orlistol certainly appear to have the ability to support people in their weight loss endeavors. Unfortunately, that does not mean the formulation will work. If the inclusion rates are too low, the pills may do little or nothing at all.
You take Orlistol with a glass of water before eating your meals. That’s something the product has in common with many other brands of diet pill.
Unfortunately, Orlistol is a somewhat complicated product to use. There is no set dose. The amount of capsules you need to take is determined by your meals.
If your meal provides 500 calories or less, you only need to take one capsule. If it provides more you have to take two.
However, the maximum dose is four capsules per day. That means, if you are taking the capsules two at a time, you will only be able to take Orlistol before two of your meals.
Orlistol Customer Feedback
Orlistol customer reviews are predominantly good. Many Amazon customers have left feedback praising the product’s abilities.
However, when I began checking the 1-star reviews I discovered a lot of reports from customers stating they were offered a free bottle of Orlistol in exchange for a 5-star review.
Naturally, this got the alarm bells ringing in my head so my next port of call was the Fakespot website. When I ran an analysis of the Orlistol sales page it’s Fakespot review grade was “F” for “fail”.
The Fakespot analysis of the reviewer patterns suggests there is a high level of deception. Furthermore, Amazon appears to have altered, modified, or removed many of the reviews.
There is clear evidence of feedback manipulation. That doesn’t mean Orlistol doesn’t work, but it does mean you cannot rely on Amazon customer feedback to provide an insight into the possible benefits and/or side the product may provide.
Orlistol Side Effects
Customer reviews don’t suggest side effects are likely to be an issue for most people using this product, but can you trust them? Either way, there are a few things potential users will need to bear in mind.
Firstly, Nutratech doesn’t specify the type of chitosan it’s using.
That means there is a good chance it may be sourced from crustaceans, which would make Orlistol unsuitable for vegetarians. It would also make it a poor option for anyone with seafood allergies.
Secondly, due to the inclusion of laxatives, using the formulation may have undesirable effects. In fact, all fat blockers and carb blockers can also be hard on the gut.
If they are not treated with respect, fat blockers can be particularly bad. Anyone who eats a lot of high-fat food while using such products may be rewarded with explosive diarrhea.
Chitosan and other fat blockers also have the potential to cause vitamin deficiencies. Vitamins A, D, E, and K are fat-soluble.
That means you can only get them from foods that contain fat. Using any type of fat blocker may interfere with your body’s ability to obtain these four important nutrients.
The best way to prevent this may be to take the relevant vitamin supplement(s). Your doctor will be the best one to let you know if this will be necessary.
As with any other supplement, it would be unwise to take Orlistol during pregnancy or while nursing.
If you have existing health problems or would need to use Orlistol alongside medication, it makes sense to get professional medical advice before buying and using Orlistol.
Where to Buy Orlistol
You can buy Orlistol from Amazon. At the time of this review, the price was around $40 per bottle.
Each bottle contains 60 capsules so, at first blush, that seems pretty good. However, customers using the maximum dose of four capsules per day will find their bottles are only good for 15 days. That would be $80 a month, making Orlistol a rather expensive product to use.
Nutratech offers customers a 30-day money-back guarantee. That’s better than no guarantee at all but it doesn’t give people long to try the product and see what it can do.
Orlistol doesn’t contain any powerful appetite suppressing ingredients.
Garcinia cambogia may offer some benefit in this regard but it’s pretty much going it alone and the inclusion rate may not be high enough to deliver good results.
If you need a good appetite suppressing diet pill, you may be better off looking elsewhere.
Without any inclusion rates, it’s hard to say if the product will function well as a fat and carb blocker and customer reviews may not be reliable.
Bearing in mind the lack of reliable information all around, there is no real reason to buy Orlistol instead of an alternative weight management product.
If you use Orlistol as part of an overall weight management routine that includes a low-calorie diet and exercise, you may burn a little extra fat. However, there are alternative options that should help you to burn a lot more, will cost less to use, and have the benefit of a better money-back guarantee.
