How are Organic Avenue's cleanses different from other cleanses?
Though there are many ways to cleanse, the process we're dedicated to includes 1) Pure, organic ingredients—always, no substitutions. 2) A 9-ton hydraulic juice press—an extraordinary juicer that retains the most nutrients possible. 3) Constant refrigeration— our juice is made in a chilled environment and maintained cold until you are ready to enjoy it. This keeps nutrient retention at a maximum. 4) We focus on detoxing AND restoration. With fruit and vegetable juices high in potassium, antioxidants, and chlorophyll, we help you remove acidity from the blood and tissues and restore alkalinity and balance to your whole system. 5) Expert support – we are with you every step of the way. Our knowledgeable OA Advisors and Cleanse Concierge teams are available to guide you through pre-cleanse transitioning, during the cleanse, post-cleanse planning and long-term maintenance. We also send you instructional emails to keep you fully informed.
How often should I do a cleanse program?
We find that cleansing seasonally is a great way to maintain health and rebalance your mind and body. Some may be more comfortable with cleansing once a year. We also have customers who choose to do a one-day cleanse weekly or monthly as part of their maintenance program. The truth is, there is no right answer and how often you cleanse is a personal decision unique to you.
Doesn't our body cleanse naturally? Why do I need to do a specific cleanse program?
Yes, every day your lungs, liver, blood and colon are working hard to keep you clean. Unfortunately, with our modern diet, increased stress and environmental pollution, we are absorbing an ever increasing amount of toxins. Over time these excess toxins get stored in our tissues and cells. Embarking on a cleansing program for a period of time gives us the chance to play catch up. The break from digestion allows for more energy to be spent on repairing the body.
Is juice cleansing another health fad?
With devoted juicers raving about amazing benefits such as more energy, mental clarity, clearer skin and better digestion, it is no wonder that juicing has increased in popularity. But a new trend it is not! Back in the 1930’s, Dr. Norman Walker invented the first commercial juicer. His research on the connection between drinking fruit and vegetable juices and improved health has been the basis for many modern day cleansing programs. So many have experienced and enjoyed the benefits first hand and have now adopted juice cleansing as a long-term lifestyle choice.
Which juices have the most protein? Where do I get my protein?
Hemp seeds and sprouted brown rice pack our smoothies with protein. So, head toward our smoothie section if you're looking for protein. As every vegetarian and vegan in a post-Atkins world knows, "How do you get your protein?" is the most-asked question by far. And the answer is: You can get plenty of protein when consuming a plant-based diet…and it's not exactly "protein" the body is after. We need the amino acids that make up proteins, and these are found in plants in their most digestible form. A variety of plants will supply you with all you need. If you need to boost the protein of a juice, add one of our Organic Avenue mix-ins to any juice or smoothie. The Supergreen will add 3 grams of protein and the Chocolate Power Protein will add 4 grams of protein.
What are the benefits of the green juices vs. the fruit juices?
Both green juices and fruit juices can be beneficial to add into your diet. Green juices contain lots of chlorophyll to help support a healthy immune system in addition to a variety of essential vitamins and minerals. Fruit juices are loaded with antioxidants to neutralize cell-damaging free radicals. Fruit juices, because of their natural sugar and sweeter taste, can be a great way to transition into a more plant-based diet. Swap out your calorie-heavy processed dessert for a nutrient-rich fruit juice!
Is it OK to exercise while cleansing?
Yes. Exercise supports the detox process. It increases blood and lymphatic circulation, removing acids through the skin, lungs, bowels, and kidneys. However, now is not the time to train for a marathon! See the next question for some suggestions on appropriate exercises during a cleanse.
What's the best kind of exercise for a cleanse?
We recommend low-or no-impact activities like rebounding (bouncing on a trampoline), yoga, walking, swimming, stretching and breathing exercises. An easy walk will gently encourage lymphatic circulation; a sweaty workout will push toxins out more quickly. Listen to what your body needs. On LOVE easy, our food-based program, most people can exercise comfortably. If you're on LOVE deep or another extended juice-only regimen, be mindful to not over-exert. Sometimes rest can be the greatest purifier. Also consider taking a hot salt bath—and almost nothing beats the sweating power of a sauna.
Can I cleanse while I'm pregnant?
Pregnancy is not the time to make extreme changes, detox, or diet. You and your growing baby will thrive on a nourishing variety of whole, organic, clean, fresh food. So if you're currently eating a high percentage of processed foods, refined flours, sugars, and meat, consider a gentle shift—adding fresh fruits and veggies (especially greens), pure juices, nuts, seeds, seaweeds, and more to the mix. Always check with your doctor before changing your dietary regimen.
Can I chew gum during the cleanse?
It's not ideal—gum can falsely stimulate digestive juices and send the message that food is coming and digestion should begin. The purpose of cleansing is to give your digestive system a rest so you can put more energy into cleaning cells. Many people use their cleanse as a time to wean themselves from bad habits—so this could be a great time to step away from the bubbles. But it's not going to wreck anything, so if you really feel the need, proceed!
Can I drink Kombucha, coffee, seltzer/sparkling water, black tea, alcohol, wine, and beer while cleansing?
We advise avoiding all of those drinks because they are highly acidic. You'll find yourself getting much better results from the cleanse if you stick to water.
Are your products Kosher?
All of Organic Avenue’s beverages are Orthodox Union (OU) certified Kosher. This includes all of our boosters, juices, smoothies and soups. In addition some of our food items are also Kosher; Chia Berry Tapioca, Probiotic Coconut Parfait, Probiotic Coconut Yogurt, Mushroom Wrap, and the Sunflower Falafel.
Do you have a low-sugar cleanse option?
Yes! Try our Go Green cleanse. Your day will consist of only alkalizing, nutrient-dense green juices. You can also visit one of our boutiques and work with an OA Advisor to put together a plan that accommodates your low-sugar needs.
Can I do an ORGANIC AVENUE cleanse if I am lactose intolerant?
Absolutely! There are no animal products or by-products in any of our products. Organic Avenue is also proudly wheat- and gluten-free.
I have a gluten allergy, can I do a cleanse?
Yep! No gluten here.
I'm allergic to nuts. Do you have a nut-free cleanse?
Please know that we produce products using tree nuts in our kitchen facility—and even though we take allergies very seriously, please be sure to read labels before ingesting anything. For a nut-free cleanse, we suggest the Go Green option which only contains a variety of our green juices. It's always best to talk to your doctor about your particular food allergy and discuss what precautions and safety measures are appropriate for you.
Can I do this if I am on any kind of medication?
Please check with your doctor if you're taking any medications.
Should I continue to take my multi-vitamins during a cleanse?
It's up to you. Some people have no problem taking vitamins as usual, but some supplements are too strong to be taken on a juice-only stomach without food as a buffer. If you're ready for a multi-vitamin break, during your cleanse would be a good time. Don’t worry, your juices will supply you with plenty of vitamins and minerals!
How many calories are in each cleanse?
Since the menu changes day to day, so will the calorie count. Here is an average estimate for each cleanse; Love deep 600-700 calories, Love fast 950-1050, Love easy 1200-1300, Go Green 500. We recognize that some believe counting calories is an ideal way to ensure you are receiving adequate nutrition and keep your weight in check. However, we find measuring how much macro and micro-nutrients you are consuming and how balanced your body’s pH is to be a better indicator of health.
How much weight will I lose? Will I gain all the weight back?
Everybody is different. If you're already slim and eating well, you may not lose any weight at all. Others who are overweight and transitioning from a highly processed, low-nutrient diet may lose a pound a day. We see our programs as the beginning of a lifestyle shift to eating more nourishing, nutrient-dense, plant-based foods. If you continue the delight of discovering these foods and learning more, any weight you shed will stay off. We also think it's more supportive of yourself to ask, "How healthy and alkaline will I be?" or "How much will I glow?" To us, those benefits, not weight, are how we measure our programs' success. If you need further guidance, feel free to call our support team or stop into one of our boutiques to visit a Cleanse Concierge advisor.
How can I keep the weight off after I have finished my cleanse?
Like any learning process, the more you immerse yourself in the beginning, the stronger your foundation will be. That means understanding intellectually why you're eating this way, and experientially understanding it too. Once you know what to eat to calm your cravings and how to keep your body's systems optimally functioning, you'll be free to make great, nourishing food choices for the rest of your life.
I'm very nervous about cleansing. I don't want to feel sick, deprived, or strange. What should I do?
Anytime you begin something new, it is expected to experience some anxiety, so be easy on yourself! Some people find their anxiety comes from the pressure of following a strict program they have no control over and potentially failing. Well fear not! – this is YOUR cleanse and you are in total control. We don’t believe in a one-cleanse-fits-all approach, which is why we offer different levels. If you are not sure where to begin, give us a call or connect with our Cleanse Concierge team to help you decide the appropriate program for your lifestyle and goals. You can adjust or stop the cleanse at any time if you wish, but we suggest you first reach out to us for more support. email@example.com 212-358-0500. I have business dinners that I need to attend, and don't want to seem anti-social.
Many of us long-term juicers frequently "stay liquid" until dinner. Just make sure you drink enough food (blended) and juice (without fiber) so that when you sit down for dinner your hunger doesn't cause you to overeat. Most restaurants will also accommodate special diets. You can ask for a good bottled water (sans "gas"), a nice vegan soup, and a hefty salad (remember to ask them to add avocado, and other veggies you see on the menu or on the "sides"). Ask with a smile and you'll likely get a lovely, healthy meal that might even inspire your colleagues to do their own cleanse!
When should I NOT do a cleanse?
Listen to your body. If you feel junked up, tired, fatigued, achy, gas, or any other symptoms of unwellness (consult your MD if you feel it's serious), consider resting and increasing your water intake first. But if you feel like your normal self (even if your normal self is a tad run down), go for a cleanse. If you feel that you want to eat solid food, you can always start gently with LOVE easy, a food and juice-based program (that also has dessert!). A cleanse should always feel right to you—don't allow yourself to be pressured into it. But if you do want support, contact our Cleanse Concierge for a variety of options. email@example.com
How and when will I receive my instructions?
You will receive your instructions prior to your start date via email. If you don't see it, check your spam folder. If you still do not see it contact firstname.lastname@example.org or call 212-358-0500 and we'll send them again.
How should I store my juice?
Keep it chilling in the fridge until you're ready to consume it. You can leave your juice out for a few minutes to achieve room temperature before drinking; this is best as too cold is too cold!
How long will my juices last? Can I drink it past the date on the cap?
No. It's ideal to consume fresh juices as soon as possible after pressing. Each food and juice made in the Organic Avenue kitchen has an expiration date—ours will be nutritionally intact for about three days. Consume each item by the sell-by date located on the product.
Why does this juice look or taste different from when I last purchased it?
You can thank Mother Nature for that! Batch to batch our juices will have subtle differences in flavor and color. Every time you bite into a piece of fruit is it the same exact experience? Of course not! Sometimes it will be sweeter or the skin will look darker, etc. That's why our juices vary a bit too.
How will I feel on the cleanse? Are there any side effects?
It is perfectly normal to experience mild cleansing symptoms in the beginning of a cleanse. This is a sign the cleanse is working and your cells are releasing stored toxins and preparing to eliminate them from the body. Symptoms you may experience include headaches, body aches, fatigue, break-outs and nausea. It should be mildly uncomfortable but not debilitating and should last for the first day or two of the cleanse. If you are on a juice-only program, you may be releasing toxins at a more rapid pace and feel it for longer. Helping your body eliminate the toxins will relieve the symptoms so make sure to drink plenty of purified water, get some light exercise, enjoy a massage and rest. If the symptoms feel unbearable, then eat something! This will slow down the detox process and allow your body to catch up and eliminate toxins. We suggest a smoothie, small piece of fruit, some crudités or half of an avocado. You can even take your cleanse down a level and add more substantial solid food such as a raw vegetable soup or salad. Listen to your body. If you are experiencing extreme symptoms or not eliminating your bowels at all, consult with your doctor.
Will I feel hungry?
Probably not. It depends on the cleanse program you choose and how much you usually eat. On LOVE easy, there's so much to consume you may not finish it all. On an all-liquid cleanse like LOVE deep, you may be hungry initially, but that should quickly go away. You can aid the process by consuming pure water between nutritional beverages. Our cleanse menus provide you with plenty of nutrients so there is no need to worry about deprivation. The hunger you are experiencing is probably due to a change in your routine and an emotional connection to food. As you get further along in your cleanse, you will notice cravings start to disappear.
What should I do if I do feel hungry?
(See above. And…) If your hunger doesn't pass and you feel like you may "cheat”, choose a salad, some carrot or celery sticks, avocado, or fresh fruit.
Will I get light-headed if I'm not eating solid food?
At any point during your cleanse if you experience extreme symptoms such as light-headedness, consult with your doctor. Our cleanse programs are packed with adequate nutrients to sustain you, but if you feel like it is not enough for your lifestyle, causing dizziness, then add some food to your plan. We suggest a vegan soup, smoothie, piece of fruit, crudités or even a salad. Make sure you are drinking plenty of purified water between juices to avoid dehydration.
Does it really matter what order I drink the juices in?
Yes. Generally the cleanse programs progress from lightest to heaviest throughout the day. This will help with digestion—for some it may take a while for it to engage, since it is different from what most people are used to. If something isn't working for you, switch it up and experiment. See how that goes. If you notice indigestion or excess gas, switch back to the suggested routine.
I am not always going to be able to drink the juices due to work or other obligations. Will it defeat the purpose of my cleanse if I have a salad or vegetables?
Nope. Salad and vegetables are a-ok!
I can't get the green juice down; I've tried everything—is it okay if I just skip them?
Some people really struggle with the greens at first—but it's worth it to keep trying! Check out our varied options—it's possible you just don't like one of the ingredients: Green LOVE has pear and lemon to help it go down; Green Coco is infused with sweet Coconut Water; Mellow LOVE is a little more of a serious green; Sweet Greens is extra-easy and great for beginners. If you've tried them all and still have challenges, try adding a lemon or ginger booster or some cayenne pepper to spice it up. It's very likely that when your body absorbs the nutrients and feels how great that is, you'll eventually develop a taste for them.
What do I eat when I'm done with my cleanse? What's the best way to come off the cleanse?
We'll send you instructions on how to break the cleanse, but the best general principles are: stick to fresh salads, soups, smoothies and juices for the first day or two post-cleanse. Slowly add some cooked food, preferably vegan around day three. If you choose to reintroduce gluten, dairy, or meat back into your diet, do so gradually and not all at once. Continue to abstain from alcohol for at least the next week. We also offer a two-day Raw Refresh package that is perfect for breaking a cleanse. If you would like a more customized plan and guidance on how to maintain your new healthy habits, connect with our Cleanse Concierge. email@example.com
I’m going to a party (or on vacation) the day after I complete my cleanse and I plan to eat and drink. Should I not cleanse at this time?
Preparing for a cleanse includes planning the right time to cleanse. If you know you have an event happening immediately following the end of your cleanse, you may want to choose another time where your social calendar is clear or at least give yourself two – three days to transition off the cleanse and back to solid food before indulging. Even then, you will want to be gentle and wise with your choices; avoid alcohol and flavor water with orange, lemon or lime slices instead and pass on the passed hors d’oeuvres. Find the crudités platter and enjoy as much as you like. Have a salad before you head out to the party so you are not starving and less tempted. If you are planning a vacation post cleanse, take advantage of the local produce. Enjoy fruit for breakfast and salads for lunch.
What if I want to cleanse today, where can I pick-up?
Stop by any Organic Avenue store and an OA Advisor can put together a cleanse program for you.
Do you ship nationally?
Yes! We can ship our LOVE deep or Go Green cleanses. We can also ship our two-day Transition (pre-cleanse) package. Unfortunately, we are unable to ship food at this time.
How soon can you fulfill my fresh food/cleanse order if ordered online?
Organic Avenue is dedicated to providing you with exceptional service and the freshest product. Due to growing demands for our products we require all cleanse orders to be placed 48 hours in advance of your requested pick up or delivery date. We are unable to accept orders for next day delivery or Pick-up.
What are the delivery windows
You choose a two-hour window, starting at 6 am. Example: 6-8 am, 8-10 am, 10-12 pm, etc. Our last two-hour window is 4-6pm. On weekends we deliver from 6-10am. Again, you need to choose a two-hour window.
Can I have multiple days delivered at once? If so, how many?
Sure! We can deliver a maximum of two days. Though we have a phenomenal juice press that helps the nutrition stay intact, it's best to consume our products as fresh as possible.
My cleanse arrived and the ice packs are melted. Is that bad?
Not necessarily. The ice packs keep the food cool for a reasonable amount of time. Please place the food items in the fridge upon receipt—this means choosing a delivery time that corresponds best with your schedule so you can do just that. If for some reason the food/juices are warm on receipt, please let us know immediately.
My cleanse didn't arrive, what should I do?
As soon as you notice a delivery gone missing, please give us a call (212.358.3500) or email (firstname.lastname@example.org), and we'll do our best to make things right, fast.
I need to change delivery location. Can I?
Yep! Just let us know 24 hours in advance. We can make the change.
What if I have more questions?
Feel free to call us at 212-358-0500 or e-mail email@example.com
