CHEERFUL CHAI SMOOTHIE
Chai teas and lattes are the perfect cozy companion for cold, wintry days and nights. But once the weather starts warming up, they may seem a little too hot to handle. However, if you're a big fan of the sweetly, spiced flavor of chai, you don't need to totally abandon it just because temperatures are on the rise, as exemplified by this delectable recipe for Denise Mari's Cheerful Chai Smoothie. It's creamy and sweet, and contains all the familiar invigorating flavors of its mug-warming cousin: cardamon, cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and cloves. Not only do these spices combine for one flavorful blend, but each brings its own healthful boost to the recipe, from the cardamon, a mood-elevator, to cinnamon, which fights fatigue. Hardy and nutritious, the Cheerful Chai Smoothie makes for an excellent on-the-go breakfast or mid-day pick-me-up.
2 cups Cashew Mylk
2 dates, drained and pitted and soaked in water 2 to 3 hours
2 teaspoons lucuma powder
3/4 teaspoon Chai Spice Blend (see below)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla powder
HOW TO MAKE IT
1. Combine all ingredients in a blender at high speed until smooth.
2. Pour into glasses and serve over ice or
3. Chill smoothie mixture in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
For Chai Spice Blend --
2 tablespoons ground cardamom
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
3/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
