WHAT ABOUT BAOBAB?

The baobab tree is one of the oldest examples of plant life that exists on Earth. Native to the African continent, it dates back over 200,000 million years and flourishes in hot, dry climate. The baobab is a colossal figure, reaching nearly 100 ft in height with a smooth trunk that can measure 36 feet in diameter. And a single tree can live for 5,000 years! In African folklore, the baobab holds a very magical place in people's hearts. Due to its large base and short upper branches, it's often referred to as the 'Upside Down' tree and legend says it acts as a spirit guide to help people make decisions and fulfill their destinies.

This tree does more than just provide shelter, shade, and inspiration, though. It also bears one of the most nutrient-packed fruits on the planet. The baobab fruit kind of looks like a cross between a coconut and a honeydew but its insides are totally unique. Crack one open and you'll find pulp that resembles broken up chunks of coconut, but is much drier. The pulp is coveted for nutritional value -- it's rich in antioxidants , potassium, vitamin C, magnesium, and is 50% fiber. You can eat the pulp, but it's usually ground down to a powder, where its tangy, citrus flavor can be a mixed into smoothies or sprinkled over desserts and yogurts.
