The goji berry is a small red fruit native to the Himalayan foothills and has been a part of traditional Chinese medicine for centuries. Hailed for its antioxidant qualities and ample amounts of iron, fiber, and calcium, this super-fruit has the ability to calm the mind and boost the immune system. Gojis have a sweet-tart taste and are most often eaten in dried form or when juiced.

However, former food writer Jen Low whipped up with a new way to use the goji, one that brings out its natural flavor while reaping all the health benefits. In 2013, she introduced Gojiccino, a liquid concentrated beverage that can be used as a caffeine-free substitute for espressos and lattes.

Fine Frappés

Contrary to its fruity base ingredient, Gojiccino doesn’t taste at all like berries. It’s more like a toasty mix of mocha and caramel. You can use it as an espresso shot right out of the bottle or mix it with warm soy milk for a latte-like beverage. But with the hot summer ahead, why not do as we do and blend it up into a refreshing frappé? Just spoon about 3 tablespoons Gojiccino into 8oz of Organic Avenue Cashew Hemp Mylk. Stir well (or better yet, mix in a blender). Pour over ice. Amazing! You’ll never crave the caffeinated version again! And not only is Gojiccino is non-GMO, has no added sugar, low in sodium, and gluten free, but at only 35 calories per serving, you can indulge without guilt.
